Чтобы никто не видел её красоты, хан построил для неё замок высоко в горах. Одиноко жила красавица Катынг в своем прекрасном, неприступном замке. Никто не мог попасть в эти места, потому что не было туда никаких дорог. Но птицы, прилетавшие с востока, пели для Катынг песни о красоте и уме парня по имени Бий, который живёт далеко в степях. Ветры, пролетавшие мимо гордо стоявшего в своем одиночестве замка, шептали красавице о любви Бия к Катынг. Разгорались в мыслях девушки прекрасные мечты о счастье с любимым человеком. И вот однажды, наслушавшись щебетанья птиц и шороха ветра, Катынг решила сбежать из заточения и встретиться с долгожданной любовью. Подкараулила смелая девушка, когда уснет её могучий отец, спрыгнула с высокой скалы и побежала навстречу любимому. Проснувшись, хан Алтай не нашёл своей дочери. Поняв, что любимая дочь покинула его навсегда, он послал вдогонку самых ловких и сильных богатырей с приказом догнать беглянку и вернуть назад. Но ни один из воинов хана не смог настичь Катынг, которая, ловко прыгая с камня на камень, петляя между скалами, стремительно бежала все дальше и дальше.
